Jimmy Barnes stole my glasses
Well not quite, more like he borrowed them. ‘Barnsey’ was signing albums after a loud and sweaty gig here in Dublin, when my turn came to have something signed he took my glasses off, he put them on and promptly closed the back-stage door leaving me stood there on my own and somewhat confused. Thankfully I got my specs back about five minutes later or it would have been a magical mystery tour for me getting home as I am blind as the proverbial bat!
Coming soon on Superdooper Radio is a two hour special featuring the solo career of one of the most influential rock bands down under. The band is Cold Chisel and their lead singer was Glasgow born James Dixon Swan better known to his fans as Jimmy Barnes.
Australian rock band Cold Chisel are sadly not a household name on this side of the world nor is the name of their lead singer, Jimmy Barnes. Arguably, for those of us on this side of the world we probably first heard of Jimmy Barnes on the soundtrack of the 1987 movie ‘The Lost Boys’ which featured Keifer Sutherland. Some German embassy guys I knew vaguely had worked in Australia before being transferred to Ireland and they brought with them a cassette tape of a Jimmy Barnes solo album ‘For The Working Class Man’.
